Shoot and Score
Set the Record Straight
Most people associate wedding planning with stress and not enjoying the engagement. Our wedding date is rather far away, so it hasn't been too bad yet. Even so, one of my favorite parts thus far has been our engagement photo shoot. This was provided complimentary of the photographer we hired for the wedding, and today was the day we got to take our pictures.
Kathryn had the excellent idea to take our shoot at our favorite record store, which happens to be adjacent to one of our favorite coffee shops. Our evening started by meeting our photographer and taking pictures in the record store right after close. This was perfect for a myriad of reasons; first and foremost, it was around 100 degrees outside, so any time spent indoors was welcome. We also enjoyed being posed in creative ways around the store, including spots with the records, books, and CDs. Our photographer also seemed to enjoy the change of scenery from the typical outdoors shoot.
Once we were done in the store, we began taking pictures outside. We thought the coffee shop would be a non starter, as they hadn't responded to our request for photography after close. However, our photographer kindly asked we take a few shots inside, given that they had just begun closing. They luckily agreed and we got even more shots at their rustic tables inside. We rounded out the shoot near the painted brickwork of the store. We haven't received our photos back yet, but the raw footage we previewed turned out really nice. I couldn't be more excited to include the pictures on our invitations!
The Night Kicks Off
At this point, it was not even 8:00 on a Friday night.
Why don't we go downtown? It's so close by!
And so we did. We started at our favorite local dessert bar. As usual, there was a long line to get in, but we learned that this was because it was one large group in front of us. The bouncer was able to let us in rather quickly as a group of two.
Kathryn, having recently flown to the Keys, was interested in key lime pie; she had inadvertently forgotten to eat any on the trip. We ended up turning this date into a celebration of citrus. She ordered a lemonade-adjacent cocktail and her key lime pie, and I got a blueberry tonic with a lemon cupcake. We shared it all and found it extra refreshing from the heat.

We decided there was still some time before we should head back home, so we walked the block and found a dive bar we had never seen before.
OOH!!!
No, we weren’t in danger. It turns out that the US had just begun its game against Paraguay in the World Cup, and we were hot on the offensive! We sat at the bar and watched until halftime as our team absolutely danced over the opposition. It was the perfect amount of energy we were hoping to spend at our last stop of the night.
