In The Heat of The Summer
We’re experiencing the first major heat wave of the year, and leaving the house has become a thing of dread. Despite our hesitation, we found a few ways to get outside without succumbing to the temperature.
The first thing we did was join our friends Morgan and Aidan on an impromptu visit to a coffee shop downtown. Aidan is especially well versed in quality coffee, so we were more than happy to tag along for a new experience. I ordered a cherry marzipan latte with a pesto sandwich, and Kathryn ordered an iced green tea with a lox bagel. The food wasn’t too impressive, but the beverages were very tasty as promised. A cold drink in the summer heat is never a bad thing, right?
We had a few more hours at home before Kathryn found the Nocturnal Critters Market a half hour away. It was at a brewery with pop up vendors scattered throughout the parking lot. Kathryn had found it through one of her coworkers, who happened to be one of the vendors. She was selling handmade crafts, including small pottery such as worry stones. We bought a couple of these stones and enjoyed a beer as we strolled the remaining shops. Everyone was incredibly kind and their wares were absolutely adorable! I always appreciate the reminder that community is crucial for maintaining a healthy social life. It’s never been easier to stay inside, and sometimes it’s worth finding a way out of it.
